Hospice

Since 1984, Visiting Nurses of Aroostook’s program, Hospice of Aroostook, has provided care for those with a terminal illness. Our mission is to ensure that hospice care is available throughout northern Maine to all who need it.

An early referral means improved quality of life for a patient since hospice specializes in pain control and symptom management. Many different diagnoses include, but are not limited to, cancer, end stage organ failure, degenerative neurological disorders and AIDS.

Our hospice team focuses on the psychological, social and spiritual needs of the whole person and their family. Our hospice team includes men and women of all ages: trained volunteers and professionals, including nurses, home health aides, medical social workers, chaplain and nutritional services and more. Respite care and grief support services are offered to family members. The care provided is dependent upon the needs of the terminally ill and their families.
